Peter Goldberger maintains a three-lawyer federal appellate practice near Philadelphia, PA. He is a former law professor at the Villanova University and Whittier College Law Schools, where he taught criminal law and procedure, sentencing and
post-conviction remedies. He has published in the fields of appellate practice, parole and sentencing, among other areas. He served as law clerk to the late Judge Edward R. Becker, then a U.S. district judge and later Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Goldberger was educated at Haverford College and Yale Law School.He is a well-regarded appellate advocate, admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and most of the federal circuits. Peter has been appointed twice by the Supreme Court of the United States to argue for indigent defendants with complex sentencing issues.
In 2006 he co-authored, with attorney Kevin McNulty, the chapter on criminal appeals for the PBI Third Circuit Appellate Practice Manual. In 1996 he co-authored, with Pamela Wilk, a 200-page manual on federal criminal appeals, later published by West Publishing Co. as part of a two-volume treatise on Federal Appellate Procedure that Peter co-edited with a Third Circuit judge and another attorney. He has served as Vice-Chair of NACDL's Appellate Advocacy Committee and has taught Appellate Advocacy at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He also serves as co-chair of NACDL's Committee on Rules of Procedure, as a vice chair of its amicus curiae committee, and on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mr. Goldberger has been listed for more than ten years in "Best Lawyers in America and was named in 1999 by Philadelphia magazine as one of the top criminal defense lawyers in Philadelphia. In 2004 and annual since then he was named a Pennsylvania SuperLawyer in the speciality of appellate practice.
